United Utilities to share more details about its Ambleside investment

United Utilities is giving members of the public chance to find out more about its proposed investment at Ambleside wastewater treatment works.

The company will be hosting a drop-in session at Ambleside Parish Centre on 5 August between 2pm and 7pm.

The proposed scheme would help to improve water quality in Windermere by reducing the number of times that the storm overflow at the site operates.

Following extensive investigations over the last few months, United Utilities is proposing to build two new above ground storage tanks in Miller Field.  The tanks would hold 4,500m2 of stormwater. 

Andrew Kendall, Wastewater Business Leader for Cumbria at United Utilities, said: “Over the past few months, we’ve been carrying out early site work, including trial holes, surveys and ground investigations around Miller Field to help us understand the site in more detail. The has shown that our original proposal for an underground storage tank is extremely complex due to the challenging ground conditions - which include areas of bedrock.

“As a result, we have been working to develop an alternative solution that would avoid major excavation and all the disruption that comes with this. Crucially, this new proposal would deliver the environmental benefits we all want to see up to 12 months sooner than originally planned.”

For those unable to attend the event, United Utilities’ information centre in Windermere is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm.
