United Utilities invites Staveley residents to find out more about its latest plans

United Utilities is offering the public the chance to find out more about the next stages of its plans to continue improving water quality around Staveley.

This year, the company has already increased the capacity of its treatment works by 50% and has re-lined nearly 400m of pipes to stop infiltration into the sewer network.

Now, United Utilities is looking to build on this work with further improvements that will benefit water quality in the River Kent.

At the treatment works, new storage tanks will be created to reduce the number of times that storm overflows operate during heavy rain.  There will also be new equipment installed to increase the capacity of the works further and ensure that wastewater is treated to higher standards.

In Staveley village, options are also being explored for new pipes to be laid under the River Kent.

Residents are being encouraged to find out more at a drop-in event being held on Tuesday 23 September at Staveley Village Hall between 2-7pm.

It comes as United Utilities embarks on the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for a century.  The company will be spending more than £13bn over the next five years to protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters whilst safeguarding drinking water supplies for millions of customers.
