United Utilities investing in Cheshire with water network upgrade in Kerridge

United Utilities has started work on a £520,000 project to upgrade the water network in Kerridge.

The first phase of this essential work will see the water company replace more than 650m of ageing water pipes along Higher Lane to help reduce leaks and bursts and improve the reliability of the water supply in the area for years to come. The second phase will begin in 2026, which will upgrade a further 1.05km of pipework.

Work starts today (October 27^th) and is expected to complete in the new year.

The replacement mains are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations to help protect against burst and reduce leaks.

Rob Moore, County Business Lead for Water in Cheshire explained: “Unfortunately there has been a history of water bursts in this area so we have prioritised this project as one of the first to be delivered through our £380m mains replacement programme.

“These new water mains are expected to last for more than 100 years and will help protect against bursts and reduce leaks in the future.

“They will play an important role in making our water network more robust and help us deliver a reliable water supply to customers in Kerridge for decades to come.”

The work will be carried out by Network Plus on behalf of United Utilities. The project will see new water mains installed along Higher Lane from the junction with Oak Lane through to where it meets Windmill Lane.

Rob Moore added: “We know this type of work can be disruptive so we are keeping in touch with the community and doing all we can to keep that to a minimum.”

United Utilities has worked closely with customers in Kerridge to keep them informed about the project. They are also reminding customers that all United Utilities’ employees and contract partners carry ID cards and will be happy to have their identity checked.
