United Utilities announces plans to improve water quality in Keekle
United Utilities is offering the public the chance to find out more about its plans to improve water quality around Keekle.
The company is proposing to build a new 600m3 storage tank at a site off Dalzell Street in the village.
The tank will cut the number of times that the storm overflow in the village operates during periods of heavy rainfall and will help to improve water quality in the River Keekle.
As well as the storage tank, the company is proposing to install a new kilometre rising main that would run along Keekle Terrace.
Main construction works are expected to start in Spring 2026 with the project due to be completed in 2028.
The North West’s water company will be transforming the water and wastewater infrastructure across the North West with the largest investment in a century. The work will protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters whilst safeguarding drinking water supplies for millions of customers.
Residents are being encouraged to find out more at a drop-in event being held on Monday 1 December 2025 at Keekle Village Hall, Dalzell Street, CA25 5RQ between 2pm and 7pm.
