Lytham St Annes Eco Group Receives Donation from United Utilities
Lytham St Annes Eco Group has received a welcome boost to its environmental initiatives thanks to an equipment donation from United Utilities’ Community Fund.
The volunteer-led group has been instrumental in the upkeep and maintenance of the charity park in Lytham, Parkview4U. The park is extremely popular amongst locals and tourists alike, boasting a range of recreational activities including a skate park, BMX track and a community centre.
The park’s community centre is home to a parkrun group, gardening club and other local initiatives.
With the popularity of the park comes the downside of litter issues, which become particularly prevalent during the summer months. Litter left in the nearby car park seeps into Liggard Brook, polluting the local waterways.
Representatives from Lytham St Annes Eco Group reached out to United Utilities for a helping hand. The team has since been provided with litter pickers and hoops, which have been used to keep the park clean.
Julie Norman, Parkview4U's Park Ranger, said "Thank you to United Utilities for their kind donation of litter picking equipment. We are delighted to now have a selection of adult and child size equipment to help keep the park clean and tidy.
“They will be perfect for all of our large events such as our skateboarding festival and football tournaments, or for any visitors who would like to take part in a two-minute litter pick in the park with the park rangers.
“We are a small charity that manage an extremely busy park with activities daily for our local community. Being able to maintain the park with the help of our visitors will make a huge difference."
Iain Pilling, Area Engagement Lead for Lancashire at United Utilities, added: “We are proud to support Lytham St Annes Eco Group’s efforts to keep the Fylde area cleaner and greener. The litter picking equipment has already made a significant difference to Parkview. It is amazing to see such dedicated action from local volunteers.”
Lytham St Annes Eco Group recently delivered a Green Living event at the Parkview community centre. To support their efforts, United Utilities donated two water butts that were up for grabs on a raffle.
