Is your future digital? 11 new apprenticeships now open for applications at United Utilities

For anyone considering a career in the world of data and digital services United Utilities has unveiled an additional 11 apprenticeship roles that are now open for applications.

The North West’s water company has created the positions to help drive forward its technological capabilities, develop how it uses data, boost digital security, and enhance accessibility for colleagues and customers.

The apprenticeships will start this September, and vary from two to three-and-a-half years, with professional qualifications gained as part of the roles. The positions are based at the Lingley Mere headquarters in Warrington and offer a minimum starting salary of £17,000 plus a range of benefits. The apprenticeships are:

  • Data Analyst (seven vacancies)
  • Data Scientist (two vacancies)
  • Digital Experience Specialist
  • Security Awareness Officer

Apprenticeship role overviews

 Data Analyst

As an apprentice Data Analyst you'll learn how to collect, organise, analyse and help to improve United Utilities’ data. During this 30 month apprenticeship you will provide business insight so we can deliver our business services, and will work on lots of different projects, providing technical data solutions to a range of issues by making recommendations.

Successful apprentices will achieve Data Analyst standard level 4, which is endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships. 

 

Data Scientist

This role will give you the opportunity to learn skills and deliver data products using leading business intelligence and advanced analytics technologies including Tableau, Alteryx, Python, R and SQL.

During this 42 month apprenticeship you will be encouraged and supported to develop important skills for a Data Scientist such as connecting to different data sources and manipulating different data types into useful formats, analysing and visualising data, utilising machine learning and artificial intelligence and statistical methods to create insight from data.

Successful apprentices will achieve Data Scientist (integrated degree) level 6, which is endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.

 

Digital Experience Specialist

You will be part of a team dedicated to driving improvements and optimising the digital user experience for colleagues at United Utilities.

During this 30 month apprenticeship you'll focus on accessibility best practice, helping United Utilities, both externally and internally, to meet organisational, national and international accessibility standards and collaborate to ensure an inclusive user experience and compliance with relevant legislation.

Successful apprentices will achieve the Digital Accessibility Specialist level 4, which is endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.

 

Security Awareness Officer

As an apprentice Security Awareness Officer you'll work closely with our information security team help to plan and develop the information security educational and awareness campaigns within United Utilities. During this 24 month apprenticeship you'll help to promote important aspects of information security to the business through email campaigns, intranet messaging, poster and pamphlet campaigns, as well as direct engagement with leaders and managers.

Successful apprentices will achieve Cyber Security Technician level 3, which is endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.
