Friends of Chorlton Park receives donation from United Utilities

The Friends of Chorlton Park conservation group has received a welcome boost to its environmental initiatives thanks to a donation from United Utilities.

The group consists of dedicated volunteers, working together to help ensure Chorlton Park is well maintained and safe for the public. Their work focuses on improving the environment and increasing biodiversity.

The group has recently developed a sponge meadow area within the park to reduce localised surface flooding.

Their most recent initiative is monitoring the water quality of Chorlton Brook, a local watercourse that joins the River Mersey upstream of Sale Water Park. Volunteers were looking to understand the impact of park improvement activities on water quality.

Friends of Chorlton Park reached out to United Utilities, who stepped in to provide the group with a host of new kit, including thigh waders, waterproof gloves, safety glasses, buckets and water testing equipment.

Mark Sewell, Wastewater Catchment Manager at United Utilities, added: “We are proud to support the efforts of Friends of Chorlton Park in maintaining and improving the water quality of Chorlton Brook and its surrounding waterways. We have already seen significant water quality improvements across the Mersey in recent years and, working with groups like the Friends of Chorlton Park we are continuing to deliver local water quality improvements beyond our own investment programme.”
