Four kilometres of water mains being upgraded in Cheshire

Four kilometres of water mains in Wincham, Cheshire are being upgraded as part of a £1m investment by United Utilities.

The new pipework is designed to protect against bursts and leaks and improve resilience in the network.

Most of the new pipelines will be laid between Pickmere Lane (B5391) and Chapel Street with a small number of surrounding streets impacted too.

The work, which is set to take around three months to complete, is already underway with temporary traffic management and signed diversion routes in place while work is carried out with access maintained for residents.

United Utilities has notified customers in the area to let them know about the work.

Mark Pritchards, County Business Lead for Water in Cheshire at United Utilities explained: “In Cheshire we’re investing £55m between now and 2030 to help reduce leaks and keep water flowing through customers' taps.

“To do this we are upgrading more than 159km of water mains with new more durable, flexible pipes that are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations. The work in Wincham is a key part of that programme and showcases our commitment to providing customers with the highest quality of drinking water.

“We're grateful to our customers for their patience while we upgrade the network.”

Ros Casson, Parish Councillor for Wincham said: “Wincham Parish Council is very pleased to announce a major investment from United Utilities in our village. The company has worked closely with the Council for a number of years, and they have listened and are responding to our concerns.

“It is a huge undertaking and there will be disruption whilst the work is carried out but United Utilities is truly committed to working with the community to minimise disruption during this time. The work will secure our water supplies for the rest of this century and beyond.”
