Brunswick Dam Conservation Group Receives Donation from United Utilities to Aid Clean-Up Efforts
Brunswick Dam Conservation Group has received a welcome boost to its environmental initiatives thanks to an equipment donation from United Utilities’ Community Fund.
The group consists of over 100 committed volunteers, who work together to make the Mossley area of Tameside cleaner and greener.
The volunteers’ latest project is the maintenance and upkeep of one of the area’s remaining mill ponds. Mill ponds are historically significant bodies of water; used to regulate water flows for powering mill wheels. There are only a handful remaining in the Mossley area.
The Brunswick Dam Conservation Group has hosted charity days to raise funds for the upkeep of the mill pond. Volunteers have received backing from local councillors, MPs, local businesses and residents.
Earlier this year, the volunteers reached out to United Utilities for some extra support to aid their work. United Utilities has supported the group by providing bird boxes, pond maintenance equipment and wild flowers to plant in the surrounding area.
Liam Charles, Chairman of Brunswick Dam Conservation Group, shared: “We are so happy to have received a generous donation from United Utilities for our current project. This support will help us in our work to care for the local bodies of water in the Mossley area. The mill pond, in particular, holds real historical significance for our community.
Liam added: “Our volunteers have been touched by the scale of this community effort. We’re truly grateful to everyone who has contributed, from local businesses to community members.”
Shy Bayly, Area Engagement Lead for Greater Manchester at United Utilities, added: “We are proud to support Brunswick Dam Conservation Group’s efforts to maintain the historical mill ponds in the Mossley area. It’s fantastic to see such committed action from local communities, and we look forward to seeing the difference that they make.”
The United Utilities Community Fund provides up to £2,500 to projects that focus on:
