Together, the tanks can hold 6,000 cubic metres of water – equivalent to around two and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools!
How do they work?
Prolonged and heavy rainfall can overwhelm our sewers, causing them to fill up and spill into waterways. By creating more storage to hold stormwater, we reduce the need for storm overflows to operate – delivering lasting environmental benefits in Bury and beyond.
This £50m investment in Bury is part of our wider £13billion upgrade across sites in the North West.
