On Thursday 15 October, over 20 suppliers joined us for our first-ever Modern Slavery Supplier Roundtable as part of Modern Slavery Awareness Week. The event aimed to raise awareness, build capability and encourage shared learning across our supply chain.

Facilitated by our partners, Slave-Free Alliance and the Supply Chain Sustainability School, the session was a great example of how collaboration and partnership can help drive awareness of such an important issue. Throughout the morning, it was clear that tackling modern slavery is a shared responsibility and that raising awareness plays a vital role in building resilience across our supply chain.

The session was opened by John Welch, Commercial Director and Executive Sponsor for Modern Slavery, demonstrating the importance of this topic to both United Utilities and our supply chain partners. The morning then focused on increasing attendees' understanding of modern slavery and helping them recognise the warning signs.

"What a buzz and great crowd. Loved it, and it felt like we all had a genuine impact... and so nice to be collaborating with SFA."
Emma Jane, Action Sustainability

We've already received fantastic feedback from suppliers, many of whom are keen to participate in future sessions and explore a wider range of topics across the United Utilities supply chain.

"Thank you for organising such an insightful event this morning. It was great to see so many people come together to discuss a really important topic."
