United Utilities to host Hawkshead drop-in event as plans progress on water quality project
United Utilities is hosting a drop in event for residents to find out more about its plans for a project in Hawkshead that will improve water quality in Windermere.
The company is investing £200m across the catchment over the next four years to reduce storm overflow operations and improve the quality of treated wastewater that is returned to the environment.
Plan are set to be submitted to the local authority in the coming months for the projects that will take place at the pumping station and wastewater treatment works in Hawkshead.
Subject to planning permission, both sites would be extended to allow for the work to be completed. At the pumping station a new 29 metre diameter storage tank would be built below ground, holding around 3000m3.
At the wastewater treatment works new technology would be installed to improve the quality of the treated wastewater that is returned to the environment.
Residents are being encouraged to find out more at a drop-in event being held on Wednesday 6 May at Hawkshead Village Hall, between 4-7pm.
It comes as United Utilities is making great progress on the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure across the North West for a century. The company is spending more than £13bn to protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters whilst safeguarding drinking water supplies for millions of customers.
