Action for Staveley

We’re on a mission to make the North West stronger and for Staveley that means increasing resilience towards climate change through rainwater management.

Cumbria sees its fair share of rain and Staveley is no exception. To tackle these challenges, we are improving our network to meet demands for now and in the future. As part of our Action Plan for Staveley we have developed plans to reduce storm water spills into the River Kent.

Work has already started within the wastewater treatment works and on Windermere Road. We’re pleased to report that good progress is being made. We will soon begin our work on Main Street and in the playground at The Pavillion and want to inform you of the details around this upcoming work.

  • Our works involve laying some new pipework across the River Kent, and in order to do this we need to work within the Environmental Agency time frames so as not to affect habitat in the river. To complete our work safely it is necessary to close the playground and remove some of the play equipment. The playground will be closed from Saturday 16 May.

Noticeboards will be available on site to explain our work.

On completion of our work, new items of play equipment will be installed in the play area. We have liaised with Staveley Village Association and Staveley primary school prior to undertaking this work and the new play equipment has been chosen by children from the school. More than half of the Ayland playing field will remain open and access to the field will be from The Mill entrance. We apologise for the inconvenience of this closure during the summer months.

  • To undertake the installation of a new pipe in the road it is necessary to close a section of Main Street, near to The Pavillion and across the bridge. We need to excavate the road and support the trench to enable work to be carried out safely.

The road closure will begin on Monday 15 June for a period of 28 days. Our team will work for longer periods of time to complete this section of work as quickly as they can.

  • During the road closure, the buses will not drive through the village along Kendal Road. They will travel into the village via the North entrance off the A591 using Windermere Road, stopping for passengers at Abbey Square bus stops opposite Staveley Village Hall.

  • Work on Windermere Road has already begun and will progress across the field in front of Brow Lane in the coming weeks. Residents affected by this work on Brow Lane will be notified separately of the work to be carried out here.

  • Whilst our work is on-going in this area, we will hold a public drop-in session at The Pavillion once a week for a few hours. These will be advertised at The Pavillion in the coming weeks. Please be mindful of construction traffic in the area, which will be managed by traffic marshals.

We understand construction work can be disruptive and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured this work will not affect your clean or wastewater services.
