Here are the simple steps you can take to prepare for winter and avoid frozen and burst water pipes:
- Find your stop tap, so you can turn your water off in an emergency.
- Insulate water pipes with lagging in cold places like the loft, garage and outside areas - you can buy lagging from DIY stores.
- Cover outdoor taps with an insulated tap cover - remember to disconnect hoses so fittings don’t freeze!
- Going away? Keep the heating on low or on a frost setting.
- Allow heat circulation by opening cupboard doors which have water pipes inside.
