Improving long-term resillience across the local network

The works will include refurbishing the current inlet, sludge area and other facilities at both sites. We will also be installing new Membrane BioReactors (MBR) technology at Wigan WwTW. The work will take around five years to complete.

What will the work involve?

The works will be spread over a five-year period. During the first stage of works, we will create a temporary Works Compound in a field next to Wigan WwTW to ensure there is enough space for our contractor teams. This area will provide parking, office space and additional storage areas for our site team. This will take place over the coming months and we plan to complete this area by the end of summer 2026. We will continue to update the local community as the work progresses.
