Building a stronger, greener and healthier Barrow

Helping to improve water quality in the Lower Ormsgill Reservoir and Walney Channel

To create a more resilient region, we’ve committed to improving the health of rivers, lakes and waterways, helping to make the North West stronger, greener and healthier. The commitment includes major investment in our wastewater network and treatment infrastructure to reduce the frequency of storm overflow operations.

What does our work involve?
We will be installing a new underground storage tank in The Tally Ho car park, Barrow-in-Furness and a new combined sewer overflow chamber in our existing compound on Schneider Road. This work will help to reduce spills in your area.

How you may be affected
Throughout the project, traffic management may be required, and we may need to put some footpath closures in place for your safety outside the pub car park and on Schneider Road when we reach certain parts of construction. We will try our best to keep construction noise to a minimum. Our standard working hours will be Monday to Friday between 8am to 6pm. If we need to work outside of these hours, we will let you know in advance.

On completion
We expect to be finished with our works in early 2028 and we will reinstate the site as it was before we started. We understand that construction activity can be inconvenient and thank you for your patience while we’re carrying out this work to improve the health of local water courses.
