Our improvements at Staveley Wastewater Treatment Works

A stronger wastewater network for Staveley

We’re carrying out a range of upgrades and improvements on our wastewater network in Staveley to increase resilience towards climate change and meet demand for now, and the future. As part of our Action Plan for Staveley we’ve been moving at pace with our plans to carry out work which involves:

  • Reducing storm water overflows into the River Kent
  • Solutions to improve surface water flooding in the village
  • Installing new technology and increasing capacity at Staveley Wastewater Treatment Works

We’re constructing two new storage tanks to reduce the number of times that storm overflows operation and installing new infrastructure, incorporating innovative technology to ensure that wastewater is treated to even higher standards.  Completion is expected in summer 2027 and will provide further improvements to benefit water quality in the River Kent.

Our work so far

We’ve already carried out initial stages of work to re-line almost 400 metres of sewer pipes, installed rainwater pods at Staveley C of E school and around the village to prevent extra water from entering the network and also created temporary additional capacity at the treatment works while we designed the permanent upgrade activity that’s now underway.
