Building a stronger, greener and healthier St Helens

Helping to improve water quality in Black Brook.

We’re investing  a combined £10 million on two storm water storage tank projects in St Helens which will help to reduce the number of times that storm overflows operate and contribute to improving water quality in local waterbodies.

What will the work involve?

We’re constructing a new underground storm water storage tank in land off Hawes Avenue in St Helens.  The work is expected to be completed in summer 2026 and will help to improve water quality in Black Brook.

We’re also carrying out a similar project near Gaskell Street in St Helens which will help to improve water quality into Sutton Brook and the Sankey Canal.
