Improvements to water quality in the River Mersey

We're carrying out upgrades at Sale Wastewater Treatment Works to enhance the treatment process, install a new pumping station, upsize pipework and create six new storage tanks to help reduce the number of times that storm overflows operate during heavy rain which will support healthier conditions in the River Mersey.

The upgrade programme will continue through to 2030.
