Visit our customer information cabin on West Way, open Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm. Our team is on hand to answer questions and provide updates on the programme.
We're constructing a new pipeline to take treated water from Fleetwood Wastewater Treatment Works to strengthen and improve resilience to the wastewater network in Rossall. The new pipeline will replace the existing treated water outfall, and our construction partner is working at all of the shaft locations.
We do understand this work may cause some disruption to local residents and road users. Our teams will do everything possible to minimise impacts and we thank you for your patience and understanding while we deliver this important upgrade.
Latest updates
Work is well underway, with the first of the two specialist tunnelling machines now operational. We're on track for the main construction activity to be completed at the end of October/early November 2026 and reinstatement activity will then follow, which will extend through to spring 2027.
We're using specialist tunnel boring machines (TBM's) to construct the new pipeline which are designed to operate continuously to prevent engineering challenges. We recognise that 24-hour working may cause some disruption and have been working with our construction partner to alter the sequencing of our programme with continuous monitoring and additional measures in place to reduce disturbance as much as possible.
Shaft 1 (Amounderness Way)
Work to construct the tunnel shaft is continuing and is expected to be complete by the end of September.
Shaft 2 (Broadwater Wood)
Construction of the tunnel shaft is expected to be ready mid September to receive the machine which has now launched from Shaft 3.
Shafts 3 and 4 (Cardinal Allen field)
The machine has been received and has completed its drive from Shaft 3 to Shaft 4. The machine’s have now been launched again and making their way from Shaft 4 towards Shaft 5 and Shaft 3 to Shaft 2.
Shafts 5 and 7 (West Way)
The tunnelling machine has completed its drive from Shaft 7 to Shaft 5. The outfall pipe will now be installed and commissioned. Once these works are complete, reinstatement will begin across each area.

Community drop-in sessions
Our next community drop-in session will take place on Wednesday 19 August between 10am and 7pm at Fleetwood Rugby Club, Melbourne Avenue.
Key milestones
January 2026
One of our tunnelling working areas to facilitate construction of the new pipeline is in Broadwater Wood. While some trees and shrubs were cleared to create a safe working area, every effort was made to minimise the impact. Reinstatement and landscaping are included in our plans and we are working closely with Wyre Borough Council.
March 2026
We were able to begin work on site in January 2026 with ground investigations and design activities, followed by the start of shaft installation works in March 2026.
April 2026
Members of our project team took part in a litter pick in the woods as part of the Great British Spring Clean, collecting and recycling glass, plastic and metal waste.
May 2026
In May 2026, the first TMB was launched.
August 2026
We installed the first and second sections of the pipe in August 2026.
September 2026
We are on track to complete the tunnel works by the end of September.
October 2026
Installation of the product pipe and final connections aim to be completed in October 2026.
November 2026
Final testing and commissioning is expected to begin this November.
Spring 2027
Once construction is complete, full reinstatement activities will take place through to spring 2027.
