Our improvements at Ridgegate Reservoir, Clarke Lane

We’re carrying out some improvement work at Ridgegate Reservoir, Clarke Lane.

You don’t often think about the journey that the water for your morning cuppa or refreshing shower has been on., With over 165 reservoirs helping us to supply over 7 million customers throughout the Northwest, we need to make sure they are all in tip-top condition.

What are we doing?

We’re completing maintenance and improvement work so that we can all continue to enjoy this important
reservoir.

  • As part of our work we will be improving the overflow spillway and reinforcing the dam crests to the west and south of the reservoir.
  • To help create a safe working area and access, we will use the track off Clarke Lane and create a temporary site compound area at the end of this track
to accommodate our staff welfare. The compound will be removed once the work is complete and the area returned to normal.
  • Unfortunately, we need to close of a section of the public footpath that runs from Clarke Lane to Bollin Brook and part of the track that runs across the southern dam. This means there will be no pedestrian access on this part of the reservoir circular walk. These closed sections are clearly signposted. We understand this may cause some inconvenience and will open the footpaths as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Our work is expected to be completed in spring 2026. We hope it doesn’t spoil your enjoyment when visiting the reservoir and thank you for bearing with us.
