Building a stronger, greener and healthier Ramsbottom. Helping to improve water quality in the River Irwell

We’re committed to improving the health of rivers, streams, lakes and the coasts of our region. That commitment includes major investment in our wastewater network.

Construction is almost complete for the new underground stormwater storage tank, along with new connecting pipes to the sewer network and two above-ground control units. The storage tank will have a capacity of up to 3.5 million litres of water (that's equivalent to approximately 44,000 bathtubs).

All construction activity and associated landscaping works is expected to finish by Spring 2026.

Please take care as there will be additional traffic travelling to, and from the compound and working areas. We’ll also be using large machinery which is likely to generate dust, noise and vibrations. For safety, we’ll need to temporarily close some footpaths and Public Rights of Way but will have diversions in place so you can still get around our working areas. Thanks for your patience as we work to improve water quality in the River Irwell, we do understand this work may be disruptive at times.
