Our upgrade activity involves installing a new section of sewer which will directly link into our Eccles Wastewater Treament site. This will provide additional capacity for storm water in the network as we're also carrying out improvements at our Eccles site.

To avoid extensive digging within the road and reduce duration, we'll be using a tunnelling technique using specialist machinery. To carry out the work safely we'll need to have a temporary road closure in place affecting a section of Peel Green Road for a period of up to eight weeks from Monday 2 March 2026. 

Traffic management:

• There will be two-way traffic lights in place near the 'Go Local' shop allowing access from Liverpool Road up to/from Hadon Road only.
• Peel Green Road leading off Barton Road will be fully closed to through traffic, with access only after the Chesham Road junction.
• We've been working closely with Salford highways teams to plan this to take place during the Easter 2026 break.
• Bus service 66: During our work, the service will not stop at Barton Road or Peel Green Road and will divert via Liverpool Road.

Update 7 April 2026: During our work, some existing underground utilities and structures were uncovered which were in different locations than indicated on service maps.  This has impacted our progress and resulted in delays to our programme. We apologise that the work will take longer than planned and the duration of the road closure will need to extend and be in place until Sunday 24 May 2026. We'll also be working extended hours and weekends (7am to 7pm) to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible and will do all we can to keep noisier activity to the hours of 8am to 6pm wherever possible.
