Improvements at Dukinfield Wastewater Treatment Works 

This £215 million investment forms part of a programme of work at three wastewater treatment sites to improve river water quality across the Tameside area. 

What will the work involve?

Upgrades to our three largest treatment sites to improve water quality in the River Tame and its tributaries of Denton Brook and Swineshaw Brook.

Dukinfield WwTW:

  • Installing new technology to reduce phosphorus and ammonia levels in treated water returned to the environment and reducing the number of storm overflow operations.
  • We're in the process of preparing our planning application for the improvements which will be submitted in spring 2026.

Ashton-Under-Lyne WwTW and Hyde WwTW's:

  • Installing new technology to improve the quality of treated water.
