Our improvements at Dufton Wastewater Treatment Works

We’re playing our part to build a stronger, greener and healthier Cumbria, carrying out a programme of  investment, improvement and infrastructure projects right across the county.

What will the work involve?

We’ve committed to improving the health of rivers, lakes and waterways which includes major investment in our wastewater network and treatment infrastructure. Using innovative techniques, upgrading our treatment processes which will help to improve the quality of water we return to the environment and carrying out work which will reduce the frequency of storm overflow operations. We’re getting stuck in to deliver our Action Plan for Cumbria.

At Dufton Wastewater Treatment Works we’re making some improvements to the existing equipment within the site so we can treat the water to even higher standards and expect the work will be completed in spring 2026. You may notice an increase in construction related vehicles through the village and noise as we carry out the improvement activity – we’ll do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we’re working, we do understand that construction activity can be inconvenient.

Helping to support others who care for our rivers

Our Community Fund is open for applications and could support your community project or grassroots organisation with up to £2500 worth of equipment. Visit our web page to find out more.
