Building a stronger, greener and healthier Blackburn

What will the work involve?

We're constructing a new underground stormwater storage tank and associated wastewater infrastructure within the grounds of St Joseph's Church. The tank will be approximately 15 metres in diameter and 14 metres deep, with the capacity to store 1.5 million litres of stormwater (1,500m³), which is equivalent to more than half the volume of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The project will also require temporary work areas on adjacent land and a construction compound at the Audley Centre. Temporary access arrangements will be put in place to support the works. Once complete, the scheme will help reduce storm overflow spills and improve water quality in the River Blakewater.
