Building a stronger, greener and healthier North West

Helping to improve water quality in Cresswellshaw Brook and the River Dane.

What will the work involve?

As part of our commitment to river health improvements in Cheshire, we’re installing a new underground storm water storage tank which will collect rainwater before it enters the combined sewer system, reducing the frequency of storm overflow operations and helping to protect local water courses. The work is taking place within the Wood Park car park off Cresswellshawe Road.  There’s a partial closure to the car park for vehicles and pedestrians - Wood Park is still open and alternative entrance routes are available. The work is expected to be completed in summer 2026.

  • During construction, there will be an increase in vehicles and machinery which will generate noise, dust and vibration. Our onsite team will do all they can to keep this to a minimum. We’ll also make sure the local community are regularly updated and our customer representatives will be available to answer any queries throughout the programme of work.
  • On completion, access to Wood Park via Cresswellshawe Road will be reopened. You may notice a new manhole cover but grass will be allowed to grow on the lid of the new tank.
