Building a stronger, greener and healthier Bolton
Helping to improve water quality in Bradshaw Brook
The work will help to reduce the number of times that the storm overflows operate. By holding water and sending through for treatment this will help to improve water quality in Bradshaw Brook.
What did the work involve?
We've completed work to provide additional storm water storage on the network by constructing two new underground storage tunnels between Firwood Industrial Estate, Bolton Arboretum and Longsight Park.
The tunnels will be able to store 3540 cubic meters of storm water – which is the equivalent of nearly one and a half Olympic size swimming pools.
This is one of four projects in Bolton, we’re investing nearly £150 million carrying out improvements which will contribute to improving river water quality. Storm water storage tanks have also been constructed at Astley Bridge and Dunscar Bridge with investment continuing at Bolton Wastewater Treatment Works.
