A £2 billion investment in Manchester’s water network

text reads - Big North West UPGRADE. Building a stronger, greener water network

As an increasing number of people across the county make it their home, Greater Manchester is one of the fastest growing regions in the UK. It’s more important than ever that we provide essential services for a growing population, both now and in the future.

We’re investing £2 billion in Manchester as part of our record £13.5bn+ spend in the North West over the next five years.

This includes:

  • Increasing capacity at our sites to treat more wastewater, fast!
  • Building underground stormwater storage tanks to protect rivers
  • Future-proofing our water supply with a network of upgraded water pipes
  • Planting trees and restoring Peatland
  • Using the latest low-carbon construction techniques
