A £2 billion investment in Manchester’s water network
As an increasing number of people across the county make it their home, Greater Manchester is one of the fastest growing regions in the UK. It’s more important than ever that we provide essential services for a growing population, both now and in the future.
We’re investing £2 billion in Manchester as part of our record £13.5bn+ spend in the North West over the next five years.
This includes:
- Increasing capacity at our sites to treat more wastewater, fast!
- Building underground stormwater storage tanks to protect rivers
- Future-proofing our water supply with a network of upgraded water pipes
- Planting trees and restoring Peatland
- Using the latest low-carbon construction techniques
Investment highlights in Prestwich, Bury, and surrounding areas:
A £34 million investment across Bury, Prestwich and Whitefield to increase stormwater storage by 6,100m3 – that’s more than 2.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
