Managing fires at Dovestone and Tintwistle
Our teams have been working alongside multiple partner organisations to stop and prevent further wildfires across Dovestone and Tintwistle.
Two fires have been devastating for our countryside and local communities, and so far, the fire has damaged a total of 885 hectares of land – equivalent to 1250 football pitches.
Among those supporting the response are United Utilities’ land teams and ground maintenance colleagues, who have created fire breaks and transported vital resources across challenging terrain.
We have also provided helicopter support at both locations, where crews have completed around 2,000 water-drop missions, helping to slow the spread of the fires and protect surrounding communities and habitats.
We’re incredibly grateful to Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, the Peak District Moorland Group, local gamekeepers, farmers and landowners, alongside our partners at the RSPB and Derby Mountain Rescue Team for their dedication, resilience and teamwork.
The multiagency response continues, and we’ll keep working alongside our partners to support and protect the environment, and nearby communities.

Staying safe
If you’re near an affected area, please follow the shelter advice of the fire service – if you can see or smell smoke, keep your windows and doors closed, and please stay away from the area for your safety.
If you are outside in other locations enjoying the warmer weather, please do not light camp fires, use disposable BBQs, and ensure you dispose of cigarettes properly.
Magnified sublight off glass bottles can also cause fires, so please make sure you take all rubbish home with you.
