Buerton and Audlem sewer improvements

Once the used water from showers and toilets goes down the drain, our job begins to help transport it along a huge network of sewer pipes to one of over 560 treatment works, before it's clean enough to return to the natural environment.

To help the network operate more efficiently, we're reducing the facilities at Buerton and installing a new sewer pipeline which will transfer the wastewater through to our Audlem site.

Find out the latest information and progress for our work at each site below.

  • What will the improvement work at Buerton involve?

Our plans include closing the existing site and building a pumping station. The new pumping station will be located on land next to the site and is nearly complete. The detailed site layout provides information about our plans.

Access will continue from the current route along Festival Avenue during the construction period. Our plans also include tree and shrub landscaping around the new pumping station on completion of the proposed work.

A new underground sewer pipeline has been installed along part of Woore Road to transfer flows through to Audlem Wastewater Treatment Works. Unfortunately we found underground obstructions which caused delays and there is further work to do to complete the pipeline. We are in discussion with the local Highways Department to agree times for the final works. Details of the pipeline route are available here.

Additional land purchase: Due to the location of existing pipework, the new pumping station is located outside of our existing site boundary, so we have purchased an additional piece of land.

Temporary compound area: During the construction period we have created a temporary compound to accommodate our team, materials and construction equipment.

  • What will the improvement work at Audlem involve?

Our plans to improve the site include building new tanks and associated treatment control equipment.  The site boundary has expanded to accommodate the new structures. The detailed site layout provides information about our plans

We'll continue to use the existing site access off Whitchurch Road next to Weaver View during the construction period and our plans include tree and shrub landscaping around the new equipment on completion of the proposed improvement work.

We understand that construction work can be inconvenient and our teams will make sure we keep the communities around both of our sites updated as our work progresses.

Construction activity: Our normal working hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm. Over the next few weeks we expect to work during some weekends, but we’ll let local residents know in advance when this is required. You will have noticed an increase in construction related vehicles and we use machinery that generates some noise. Our site team are doing all they can to keep this to a minimum.

Wash, flush…carry on as normal: Don’t worry, you will still be able to use all your existing appliances or facilities that take away the used water from your home or business just as you usually would while the work is carried out.

    • Construction work on both sites and the new sewer pipeline has begun. We expect work to finish by late Winter 2023.
    • We understand that construction work can be inconvenient. If you need to get in touch please give our friendly team a call on 0345 672 3723 and quote project number 80061711. We’ll be happy to help.

  • We're making improvements to the sewer network in Buerton and Audlem but problems in the sewers can often be caused by flushing wet wipes down the loo or pouring fats, oils and grease down the sink.
