Action for Staveley

We’re on a mission to make the North West stronger and for Staveley that means increasing resilience towards climate change through rainwater management.

Cumbria sees its fair share of rain and Staveley is no exception. To tackle these challenges, we are improving our network to meet demands for now and in the future. As part of our Action Plan for Staveley we have developed plans to reduce storm water spills into the River Kent.

Work is underway within the wastewater treatment works and on Windermere Road. We’re pleased to report that good progress is being made. Our work on Main Street is now complete and we're now working within the playground and on Gowan Terrace.

Video update: Luke from the site team shares more on progress so far

  • We’re currently carrying out a multi-million-pound infrastructure project in Staveley focused on upgrading the treatment works and increasing the size of our pipes to reduce sewer flooding and improve the water quality in the River Kent.

We have completed the surface water disconnection at Brow Lane and installed the upsized sewer at Gowan Terrace.

We’re now continuing to progress laying the pipeline from the river towards the wastewater treatment works. As of early October we have completed around 40% of this work and are on target to be complete by Spring 2027.

We’re also making good progress with our improvements at the treatment works and have started to create the new storm tanks. This additional storage will help increase the amount of storm water the treatment works can store and then return for full treatment, reducing the number of times the storm overflows need to operate during periods of heavy rainfall.

  • We’ve now completed the work to build a new pipeline across the river and through the playground. Playdale, the playground manufacturer, is now on site starting the install of the new equipment.
