Work kick-starts at Thornton Hough wastewater treatment works
24 Feb 2026
Overview
A £3 million investment project has started at Thornton Hough wastewater treatment works to build a new stormwater storage tank. The tank will collect excess stormwater during periods of heavy rainfall.
Solution
The work to build a 900m3 tank will complete in late 2026 and will reduce the frequency of storm overflow activations in the local area.
Outcome
This project will improve water quality in the nearby waterbodies of Dibbinsdale Brook and Clatter Brook and is being delivered as part of our Big North West Upgrade to make the North West stronger, greener, healthier.
