£215m investment will improve water quality in Tameside
Overview
Three treatment works will undergo improvements over the next five years, as part of a wider £13bn investment programme.
Spills from 20 storm overflows will be reduced, improving water quality in the River Tame and its tributaries of Denton Book and Swineshaw Brook.
Solution
Improvements to three of our largest treatment works in Greater Manchester will include upgraded technology and boosted treatment capacity to improve the quality of water returned to the environment.
At Dukinfield Wastewater treatment works, new technology will be installed to reduce phosphorus and ammonia levels. The project will also reduce the number of storm overflow operations at the site.
Our projects at Ashton-Under-Lyne and Hyde wastewater treatment works will also see new technology installed at the sites to improve the quality of the treated wastewater.
Outcome
The storm overflow improvements are spread across the drainage areas of Ashton, Dukinfield, Hyde and Mossley.
This project is being delivered as part of our Big North West Upgrade to make the northwest stronger, greener and healthier.
