How our work may affect you
We understand roadworks are inconvenient
We also recognise the sensitivity of the location where we're working, so we'll be doing all we can to minimise the impact for residents, businesses and tourists.
Our work along the A592 will be completed over a three year winter period. The pipeline will be installed in 300 metre sections, filling in the areas as we move along.
Season 1: November 2016 - April 2017
Season 2: November 2017 - April 2018
Season 3: November 2019 - April 2019
We've now completed our season one highway work on the A592 and the road has re-opened. We understand the road closure was inconvenient, and would like to thank the community and motorists for their patience and understanding during the closure period.
Our team will continue working during the summer months within our treatment works to carry out other elements of the project.
In advance of starting our season two work, we'll be holding an exhibition in early autumn 2017 to provide further information to the community. Once a date and venue is confirmed we'll send letters to residents and communicate details in the local press.
Making way for the new pipeline - gas pipe diversion work
Before we can start to install the new pipeline for our season two work on the A592 in November 2017, other utilities will need to carry out work to divert their underground services. We've worked closely with the other utility companies to schedule this work.
National Grid started their work to move gas pipes in May. This will be carried out in stages of around 200 metres and their teams will be working seven days a week. The work will start near to Storrs Hall Hotel and finish at Ferry Nab in October. During this work there will be temporary traffic lights in place. Any queries about the gas pipe diversion work should be directed to the National Grid customer team on 0161 703 1000.
Braithwaite Fold car park
We'll have a site compound set up in Braithwaite Fold car park to accommodate our equipment and site office during our work. Our other compounds will be based at our treatment works or near our working areas.
Consideration for the environment
We engaged independent consultants to complete ecological surveys and tree impact assessments to help us plan our route with the aim of minimising tree loss, and the impact on the environment. During our planning we considered several options, however the chosen route will still require some trees to be removed or cut back to make way for the new pipeline.
Thank you for bearing with us while we carry out this important work to bring overall benefits for the community and the environment too.
We've also added some information around questions that were raised by the community at our public exhibition which you can view on our questions and answers page.
Our second season of work is due to start in November 2017 and will run into March 2018. We’ll have a lane closure and traffic management in place from November which will move along as our work progresses. This will be removed in time for the Christmas period.
After the New Year break there will be a road closure in place until March 2018, this will be temporarily lifted during school holidays. The same diversion route which directed traffic around our work during season one will apply.
