How our work may affect you
We understand roadworks are inconvenient and we would like to thank you for your patience while we've been working along the A592. We recognise the sensitivity of the location where we’re working and have programmed road closures to take place out of season to minimise the impact for residents, businesses and tourists. Our team are currently carrying out our third season of work.
Season 1: Completed November 2016 – April 2017
Season 2: Completed November 2017 – April 2018
Season 3: Late October 2018 – End of March 2019
Our work on the A592 - updated 15.03.19
Road closure: We were aiming to remove the road closure near Tower View (south of the Beech Hill Hotel) while our team installed a new valve today (Friday 15 March).
The recent weather conditions have unfortunately delayed the teams progress in this area. The new valve has been installed, but the road closure will need to remain in place until the resurface work is completed. Subject to weather conditions, we are hoping to be able to re-open this section of road in the early part of week commencing Monday 18 March. Vehicles wishing to travel between Newby Bridge and Bowness will still need to follow the signed diversion. We're sorry for the delay and will be working as quickly as possible to complete this section of work.
Part-time road closure:
From Wednesday 6 March, to avoid extending the duration of the road closure already in place, we have introduced a part-time closure which will operate Monday - Friday between 8am and 5pm. This will move along as our work progresses to carry out road resurfacing. Subject to weather conditions this may include occasional weekend work. We expect all the work which requires a road closure will be completed by late March 2019.
We are carrying out resurfacing work in the following locations:
- From Christmas Lane to March Cottage (200m north of Storrs Hall Hotel)
- From Ghyll Head to Moor Crag
- Outside the Beech Hill Hotel
- From Calm Waters extending 500m south
Small vehicles will be diverted along the B5360. Larger vehicles will be allowed to travel along the A592 as far as The Beech Hill Hotel. We will have staff on site to help guide traffic with clear signage displayed.
During our season three road closure (Map PDF 98KB opens in a new window) work a signed diversion will direct traffic via the A590/A591.
Glebe Road car park: We still need to carry out some elements of work with the car park which requires a temporary suspension of some car parking spaces, but the car park is still open. Further work within the car park is expected to take place later in 2019.
Beech Hill car park
We're using the car park to store our equipment which means the car park will be closed for public use. The picnic area will remain open to pedestrians, although the public toilets will be closed.
Thank you for bearing with us while we carry out our work.
