Improving our wastewater network in Bowness-on-Windermere
Over the last few years we've completed several projects which have reduced the risk of stormwater flooding on Glebe Road and contributed to significant environmental benefits to Windermere.
To help provide further water quality improvements, we're carrying out a project to install a new 6.5km wastewater pipeline from our pumping station in the car park at Glebe Road, along the A592 to Windermere Wastewater Treatment Works (Tower Wood). We're also completing a programme of upgrade work at Windermere and Ambleside Wastewater Treatment Works.
To help minimise disruption for the community and road users our work on the A592 has been programmed to take place during the quieter winter period.
We've now started our third season of work on the A592 and will have some temporary traffic lights in place at a few locations while our team are working. Sections of the A592 will require a temporary road closure in place while we install the new pipeline and carry out resurfacing work. The overview map for our season three work (PDF 74KB opens in a new window) illustrates where we will be working. We'll have the same diversion route (PDF 97KB opens in a new window) in place which will direct all traffic along the A590/A591.
We understand how inconvenient road closures are and our team will do all they can to reduce the impact and get the work completed as quickly as possible.
A member of the project team will be in the Tourist Information Centre, Glebe Road on Wednesday's between midday and 3pm and will be happy to provide further information about our project or answer any queries you may have.
