Williamsgate Water Treatment Works
The raw (untreated) water from Thirlmere Reservoir will be transported through to a new water treatment works just off the A595 near Redmain.
The site has also been designed to merge into the natural contours of the surrounding environment, and our design also incorporates a green roof to help the site blend into the landscape.
Once the wider network and infrastructure is complete, the site will be capable of treating 80 million litres of water every day when it's completed in 2022.
A network of new distribution pipes will take the treated water from the site to our service reservoirs, where it will be stored and ready to supply customers in West Cumbria.
The structures which form the concrete tanks are really starting to take shape, but before we could start construction, our team needed to move around 400,000 tonnes of earth. All the excavated earth has been retained on site which will help to provide the landscaping once construction is complete. This also helped to reduce the number of heavy construction vehicles on the local road network.
We currently have some temporary traffic management and a speed reduction in place while our team install a new water pipeline across the A595 into the site.
