2019 Affordability Summit
Affordability Summit 2019: Launch of the North West Hardship Hub
Monday 21 January 2019
Convention Centre Complex, Manchester
This event - supported by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester - builds on the work that began at the first summit in 2018. You can find out more about our first affordability summit in 2018 here.
One major initiative announced was the launch of the North West Hardship Hub, a portal which creates a one-stop-shop to bring financial assistance schemes and information from across the public and private sector to help the money advice community quickly and easily pinpoint the right support for the people who come to them for help. We have developed this in partnership with a number of partners from the money advice community and believe it to be the first affordability advice portal of its kind in the UK.

What others think of our affordability initiatives
"With the news that household debt is at its highest levels ever, finding the right support when you’re struggling with your bills is now even more important. Bringing both debt advisers and organisations together with the joint aim to help people out of debt needs to be applauded; 12 months after the first North West Affordability Summit, we’re seeing real progress being made in helping to improve access to affordability schemes across many different sectors. Organisations cannot tackle this in
isolation and working together with debt advisers across the North West, helping their customers get the financial support they need quickly and easily can only be a good thing."
Yvonne Fovargue MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Debt and Personal Finance.
"United Utilities have always been at the forefront of tackling water debt and have created multiple schemes to support those customers who are struggling to pay their bills.
Not only do they support customers, they are also inspirational in how they support advisors and organisations. They also fund and support the annual Affordability summit which I feel is invaluable to communities supporting customers tackling water poverty.
United Utilities are exceptional in the support they provide to the community, they have funded various projects and most recently funded the setup of the UU North West Hardship Hub. This will be an amazing opportunity for advisors to have a shared platform for all to access, and will inevitably save valuable advisors time, as all resources will be in a centralised location.
United Utilities are to be commended on their achievements in supporting the eradication of water poverty in the North West, and if more companies adopted their approach, the nation would be in a better place."
