Dye me a river

United Utilities quickly stepped in to put minds at ease following concerns raised by some people who noticed a watercourse had turned green.

The strange green colour of water flowing around Rivacre Valley, close to Ellesmere Port puzzled many out enjoying a leisurely walk.

United Utilities clarified the situation.

A spokesman said: “The green colour does look a bit weird if you don't know what it is.

"It's a vegetable-based dye that is used all the time in the drainage industry to help trace flowing water.

"It's completely harmless and it fades very quickly in a few hours.

"Our engineer had been using the dye to investigate a drainage problem nearby."
