Sadly, we can’t always rely on good health. That’s why we make provisions for you if you need to retire early because of ill health or disability (also known as ‘incapacity retirement’).
To qualify for an ill health early retirement pension, you must satisfy the definition of incapacity as defined in the Pension Scheme rules.
What do I need to do?
If you wish to consider ill health retirement you will need to speak to your line manager in the first instance to make a formal application to the Trustee. They will be able to provide the forms that you will need to complete to start your application.
Our Trustee has appointed an independent doctor who obtains reports (with your permission) from Occupational Health and other medical professionals. After considering the report carefully, they’ll make a recommendation on whether you qualify for ill health (incapacity) retirement which will then be sent to the Trustee for a decision.
You will be notified by your line manager of the Trustee's decision.
Please note it may take a few months for a decision to be made.
