Responsibility for pipe maintenance and repair is divided between United Utilities and homeowners.
Our responsibility
We usually own all the water mains in the streets and we are normally responsible for the pipe which brings water from the main to the boundary of the street. Maintaining and repairing these pipes is our responsibility.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the supply pipe from the boundary of the street to inside your home, and for the plumbing in your home. Your pipe might cross your neighbour's land. If you have a problem with your pipes and plumbing, we recommend using a WIAPS (Water Industry Approved Plumbing Scheme) plumber.
