Where it is and what to do

To turn your water off, you’ll need to turn off your stop tap, which will usually be somewhere on the ground floor of your home. It’s probably under the kitchen sink or in a room closest to where the water supply enters the building.

Another place it could be is in the meter box on an outside wall. It’s a good idea to regularly check it’s working properly by turning off your stop tap (turn it clockwise) even when there isn’t an emergency.
