As part of our commitment to the community, we provide a network of environmental education centres, available free to every school in the north west region.
At each centre, full time teaching and support staff offer a range of interactive and stimulating programmes. Each centre offers individual full day activities on subjects such as the water cycle, water conservation, environmental protection, electricity, climate change and energy awareness. Over 20,000 children currently participate in our education programme. We also support the development of engineering skills through our Bright Sparks programme.
United Utilities is committed to reducing its own carbon footprint. Through our carbon policy and our education programmes if implemented, schools and individuals may be able to reduce their 'carbon footprint'. In 2008 we launched an enhanced education programme at the Worthington Lakes Centre focusing on climate change including water and energy conservation.
We have a range of free teaching packs and videos, which support the National Curriculum, developed jointly with teachers and our community partners. We provide teacher inset days and are involved with a number of new education initiatives. For general information, please contact the education liaison service by phone on the number below.
