Apprentices to give something back to local community
United Utilities current crop of apprentices, are celebrating the 10th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2017) which runs from Monday, March 6 to 10 March by volunteering to give something back to locally based community groups, schools and charities across the North West.
As part of the challenge to celebrate NAW2017, over 30 apprentices from the water company will be involved in many activities from beach cleaning in Blackpool, handing out leaflets for St Rocco’s in Warrington, helping Manchester based Francis House Children’s Hospice prepare for this year’s Easter event and promoting the benefits of apprenticeships to students in Liverpool and Cumbria.
Matthew Newman, aged 19 who joined United Utilities apprenticeship scheme last year, said “To mark NAW2017 we got set a challenge by our managers to help make a difference, and all the apprentices involved are delighted we are going to be able to give something back to the communities we serve.”
“We have all sorts of projects during the week and I’m sure it will be tough, but very rewarding.”
Phil White, Head of Learning and Development at United Utilities said “Being community-minded is in our blood and it’s something we want our apprentices, who are the future of our business, involved in too. We’re proud of them for finding some great projects to get involved in.”
National Apprenticeship week, will bring together employers and apprentices from across England to celebrate the success of apprenticeships. This year’s theme is the “Ladder of Opportunity”, and United Utilities is currently looking to attract 29 apprentices to join its award winning scheme.
Successful applicants will not only learn the ropes as the next generation of employees, but will also be offered fantastic opportunities to develop as people.
