Current directorships/business interests: Chairman of Rentokil Initial plc, senior independent director of J Sainsbury plc, non-executive director of Rolls-Royce Group plc and Sara Lee Corporation

Career experience: Appointed to the board of ICI plc in 1999 and became chief executive in 2003, a position held until ICI's takeover by Akzo Nobel.

Career experience: Chief executive of SELEX Galileo, the defence electronics company owned by Italian aerospace and defence organisation Finmeccanica. Previously chief operating officer at BAE Systems PLC, and a member of its PLC board and he spent his earlier career with British Aerospace PLC

Career experience: Chief financial officer at Telecom New Zealand. Previously he was  finance director of Lovells between 2002 to 2008 and prior to that was finance director at  BT Wholesale, BT Networks and Information Services, ICI Polyurethanes and ICI Japan.

Career experience: A former civil servant and acting permanent secretary at the Department for Trade and Industry. Previously a non-executive director of Ensus Limited, and Swiss Re GB Plc.

Sally Cabrini

Human resources director

Sally was appointed human resources director in February 2011, having joined United Utilities in June 2007 in a previous role as HR Operations Director. She started her career in HR with Rowntree Mackintosh Ltd before going on to work in senior roles for Northern Foods Plc and then as a consultant to a number of companies. Sally holds a BA (Hons) degree in French and Spanish and has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development for more than 20 years.

Tony Conway

Strategic asset planning and engineering director

Tony was appointed as Strategic Asset Planning Director in June 2011, and his role was extended to include Engineering in August 2011.  He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering, and is a Chartered Engineer.  Tony spent his early career in civil engineering contracting and design consultancy.  He joined North West Water in December 1981, and subsequently widened his experience working for project management consultants.  He joined United Utilities in November 1989 and has held senior roles in Asset Management, Operations and Regulation, including leading the company's last price review programme.

Gary Dixon

Customer services director

Gary was appointed customer services director in May 2009.  He started his career with Norweb as an apprentice in 1974 and went on to complete an HNC in electrical engineering in 1981. Gary held a number of senior roles in Norweb before moving to work for Eastern Electricity in North London where he held various senior positions in electrical contracting, energy sales and retailing. He returned to Norweb and the North West in 1993 and when Norweb and North West Water merged in 2000 and became United Utilities, Gary took on the role of customer service director for the water business. Over the past 11 years he has enjoyed a variety of senior roles in United Utilities in Customer Service, Sales, and in Water and Wastewater Operations. Gary holds a Diploma in Management studies and is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Steve Fraser, Managing Director, Operations, United Utilities

Steve has previously worked in utility contracting for 12 years, latterly as a director of Bethell Power Services before joining United Utilities in 2005 as operations director of the regulated wastewater business and later, managing director of our energy and contracting services business, and managing director of operations. Steve holds a BA (Hons) degree in Management Studies and an MSC in Engineering Project Management.

Simon Gardiner

Legal

Simon Gardiner joined United Utilities in 2002 and was appointed general counsel and company secretary in April 2011 having previously held the role of head of legal. He graduated from Cambridge University and is a qualified UK solicitor. He has extensive experience in the UK regulated utility sector and internationally. He is a director of AS Tallinna Vesi, the licensed water undertaker for the Estonian capital in which United Utilities retains a 35% stake. Prior to joining United Utilities, he was legal counsel for the engineering group, GKN and an associate at the law firm, Osborne Clarke.

Gaynor Kenyon, Communications Director, United Utilities

Gaynor Kenyon

Corporate affairs director

Gaynor was appointed in May 2006 and joined United Utilities from Scottish Power where she was UK government and community affairs director. She was instrumental in achieving BiTC Company of the Year award in 2009 for United Utilities and in 2002 for Scottish Power. Gaynor previously worked for electricity company Manweb until 1995, at the Government's Central Office of Information, and as a journalist.

Janice Smethurst

Supply chain & commercial director

Janice joined United Utilities in April 2008 as head of supply chain and was appointed as interim director of our supply chain and commercial function in August 2011.  She has held senior roles in both the public and private sector, including HM Customs & Excise, AstraZeneca and United Assurance Group. She has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply since 1995.

Paula Steer

Head of safety, heath, environment and quality

Paula was appointed Head of Safety, Heath, Environment and Quality in April 2011, and is Head of Property. She is also Director of United Utilities Property Services Ltd.

Paula joined United Utilities in 1987 and has held various roles within the organisation. She has a diploma in Land and Property Valuation and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).

Paul Worthington, Chief Information Officer, United Utilities

Paul Worthington

Chief information officer

Paul was appointed chief information officer in June 2010. He was previously a partner at the strategy consultant Blueground Partners. Prior to that he was group commercial director and group chief information officer for Kingfisher PLC, following a number of senior roles within the group and  previously for Nationwide Building Society. Paul is a non-executive director of Modelzone Holdings, has an MBA in Executive Management, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has a BSc (Hons) in Maths and Statistics.
