To collect the water needed for drinking, we own and operate a number of catchments. In north west England, these are mainly upland areas, and cover around 58,000 hectares of land from the Lake District to the Peak District.
These contain a variety of habitats and species, some of which are protected or covered by local biodiversity action plans. We have a significant impact on biodiversity through the way we manage these habitats, many of which have wildife designations.
We have developed a biodiversity strategy that sets out our impacts on wildlife through our land management and other operations and have developed biodiversity action plans for specific habitats and species. Click on the link in the related items section to view the full Biodiversity Strategy.
We work with a variety of partners who help us to protect the wildlife in our areas, such as the Wildlife Trusts, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Moors for the Future project.
