Wildlife

We own 57,000 hectares of land in the north west of England, for the purposes of collecting raw water, much of which is of significant wildlife value. We manage this land to balance the needs of people, wildlife and water supply.

Our SCaMP programme has been restoring valuable moorland habitats in Bowland and the Peak District for the past five years and this work is now being extended over the next five years.

We are implementing our biodiversity policy at our operational sites, such as treatment works and office sites, to further integrate the needs of wildlife into day to day operations. We also take wildlife into account in planning and delivering our capital investment programme. For example we will be installing and improving fish passes at river abstractions in the next 5 years.

In delivering our wildlife activities we work with a wide variety of partner organisations, including Natural England, the Environment Agency, RSPB, Moors for the Future and the Wildlife Trusts.
