United Utilities is the UK's largest operator of water systems

We own and operate the water network in North West England, supplying almost 2,000 million litres of water every day via a network of over 42,000 kilometres of water pipes, over 1,400 kilometres of aqueduct and 100 water treatment works.

Our area covers a population of seven million people and 3.2 million households and business premises.

Working around the clock, we use technology and the natural water cycle to ensure that homes and businesses receive clean, safe drinking water on tap. We manage the catchment areas to collect and store water in our reservoirs before treating it and delivering it to homes and industry across the region. In the North West we maintain and operate:

  • 184 reservoirs
  • over 42,000 km of water pipes
  • over 1,400 km of aqueduct
  • 100 water treatment works
