What happens next?
Once you have received your permission document, you must ensure that you read it carefully and store it in a safe place. It is a legal document and contains conditions regarding the quality of your discharge, method of discharge sampling and measurement, and charges.
Your local Regulatory Controller will visit your premises to take samples of your effluent and read your meter; in order to monitor compliance against your permission document, and for charging purposes.
How do I change or update my permission document?
United Utilities has a duty to review your permission document regularly to ensure it is still appropriate. However you must inform United Utilities of:
- Any proposed changes to the nature or composition of your effluent
- Any proposed changes to the amount of effluent discharged
- Any proposed changes to the legal name or trading name of your company
- Permanent termination of the discharge
If there are any changes required you will need to complete and submit preliminary particular forms.
What if I have a spillage or emergency on site?
In the event of a spillage on site it is essential that action is taken promptly in order to prevent or minimise any discharge to the sewerage network. Your company should have an incident management procedure in place and all staff should be familiar with it. Site drainage plans and Material Safety Data sheets should be readily available.
The spilled material should be prevented from entering any drains on site, as far as possible.
If the spilled material has passed into the site drainage system then it is essential that United Utilities is contacted immediately:
- Within normal working hours contact your Local Regulatory Controller.
- If the spillage occurs out of office hours contact our Operational Response Centre on 0845 6020406.
