Rivington lies on the south-western edge of the West Pennine Moors, with excellent access from the north and south via the M61 motorway, through Horwich and Chorley.
Walking and riding trails in and around the area reveal many interesting features including two cruck barns, the ruined replica of Liverpool Castle, Leverhulme's Terraced Gardens and Rivington Pike.
Great House Information Centre in Lever Park, adjacent to the shores of Lower Rivington Reservoir, is open throughout the year offering visitors a variety of exhibitions on the local and natural history of the area, ideas for other places to visit in the West Pennine Moors and an insight into the water business.
